Loan sanction letters worth Rs 70 lakh were distributed to 26 Self Help Groups (SHGs) in Eastern West Khasi Hills district during the SHG mela cum financial literacy camp held today at Madan Mot Tirot in Mairang.
The event was held as part o the North East Festival 2022 under the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav organised by the office of the Deputy Commissioner in collaboration with the offices of the Block Development Officer, Mairang and Mawthadraishan blocks.
Syiem of Hima Nongkhlaw, P.M Syiemlieh attended the programme as the chief guest. During his speech he laid emphasis on the crucial role played by SHGs in uplifting the socio-economic status of citizens particularly the women folk as the SHG movement promotes the spirit of unity, co-operation and mutual support. He also urged those who are yet to be associated with the SHG movement to partake in the movement in the days to come.
Deputy Commissioner, W. Nongsiej, Superintendent of Police M.B Syiem, district officials, traditional heads, SHG members and others attended the programme.
As part of the celebration, a Quiz competition was also held at Mairang Presbyterian Higher Secondary School. Langtor Higher Secondary School bagged the first prize followed by Mairang Presbyterian Higher Secondary School and Mairang Presbyterian Science College won the second and third prizes respectively.
