Shillong, Oct 31: The Shillong Traffic Police (STP) is set to introduce the Student Traffic Cadets programme, an initiative aimed at nurturing responsible citizenship, leadership and road safety awareness among young students.
Beginning with the Laitumkhrah sector, the programme will provide students of Classes VIII and IX an opportunity to understand traffic regulations, develop civic responsibility and contribute towards building a safer and more disciplined road environment.
Officials said the safety and well-being of every participating student will remain the foremost priority.
To ensure this, safeguards will be strictly observed. Participation will be entirely voluntary and no student will be enrolled without prior consent of a parent or legal guardian, and all traffic-related activities will be conducted under the direct supervision and guidance of STP personnel. Students will not be deployed independently.
“Through this initiative, we hope to inspire young minds to become informed, responsible and safety-conscious citizens who lead by example,” the STP said.
