The Khasi Students’ Union War-Jaiñtia Circle has lodged a complaint with the Sub-Division Officer in Amlarem related to pollution of water sources caused by dumped coal.
The KSU said the coal dumped for many years have led to significant water pollution, especially during rainy seasons. This runoff has contaminated the water sources, making them unsuitable for consumption, it said.
The coal dumps are found in various areas of the village and along the Amlarem–Dawki road and the coal owners and the SDO must take immediate action to shift the coal heap.
