Members of the Hynñiewtrep National Youth Movement (HNYM) took to the streets today to protest against rising unemployment in the State.
The organisation has planned to stage the protest at the gates of the Main Secretariat, but was prevented from marching forward by the district administration since Section 144 CrPC was imposed by the District Magistrate.
HNYM President, Lous Dohtdong who led the protest slammed the state government and said there are several PSUs in the state but they have not benefitted the youth. He demanded that the government should reserve 80 per cent of jobs in the private sector.
In Haryana, Mumbai Punjab and other states they have allotted 70 or 80 per cent job reservation in private sector so people there don’t face unemployment in their states, he stated.
Dohtdong said the demand for an employment policy was made in July 2022 and questioned the growing number of liquor stores along the national highway within the state.
Asked if promoting entrepreneurship through various programmes was not enough for the state, Dohtdong stated that “entrepreneurship is for those who have money in their pockets or have close ties with the government.”
He also said the emergence of a new militant outfit was due to unemployment.
Dohtdong further informed that a meeting with the chief minister has been scheduled for September 4, and they raise the demands.
