Electors in Eastern West Khasi Hills have been urged by their District Election Officer to report any violations of the Model Code of Conduct ahead of the February 27 election.
In a release today, the DEO asked the electors of Mairang and Mawthadraishan constituencies, the two seats in the district, to “refrain from bribery, undue- influence, appeals not to exercise their votes, intimidation, voting on religious or community consideration and promoting enmity or hatred.”
Should there be any violation of the MCC, such as defacement of public property, distribution of cash, liquor, gifts or offering/attempting to offer bribe by the candidates or political parties, threatening or intimidation of electors or any other electoral malpractices, the same should immediately be reported to the complaint monitoring cell specially set up for receiving complaints and grievances.

Flying squads have been formed to verify and register cases against violators, if any, the release added.
Restrictions were also promulgated today in East Jaiñtia Hills and Sohra civil sub-division regarding the prohibition of wall writing, pasting of posters/papers or defacement in any form or erecting/displaying cut-outs, hoardings, banners, flags, etc on government premises, displaying of flags and banners on private property without consent, restrictions on campaign meetings, arms and explosives, etc.
