Shillong, Oct 21: Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma has announced Rs 5.50 crore support for the 50th Wangala Golden Jubilee which will witness 1000 drums this year.
The CM visited the Wangala A•dam to review preparations for the festival.
“This year’s festival will be a proud milestone that honours our traditions, celebrates our cultural identity and keeps the spirit of our ancestors alive for generations to come,” he wrote on social media.
Earlier the CM laid the foundation for the new Siju C&RD Block office building. In his address, the CM said 70 per cent of public works and benefits are delivered through blocks, so blocks are important for public service.
He said there are 56 blocks in the state and the government is constructing new buildings across.
He recalled that Rerapara Block had been running without a building since 2014 and its new building was inaugurated on Tuesday.
On the development model, Sangma said since 2018 his model has been holistic development reaching every corner, including infrastructure and personal development.
The CM added that the government has not achieved everything but is striving towards balanced overall development. He also expressed concern over delays in NH-62 / NH-217 due to land acquisition and forest issues and said that the government is taking up the matter with the central ministry.
He also mentioned that the Siju to Chokpot Road proposal has been submitted to the Government through the Ministry of DoNER. “Once it is granted, travel from Siju to Tura via Chokpot will be much faster and easier for office work and public movement,” he said.
