A low tension line electricity pole collapsed in Bataw village, with no casualties reported.
The incident took place yesterday as the pole had worn out and there was no disruption of electricity supply as the pole was deactivated.
The Jaiñtia Youth Federation (JYF), Bataw Unit in a press statement has expressed concern and said the service of the power department in the district was lackadaisical.
Unit president, Jiki Lakhi stated that the organisation has written to the MePDCL Assistant Engineer in Khliehriat on April 15, 2021 for replacement of electricity poles in Bataw but no action was taken. He said the power department will have to shoulder the blame if any untoward incident takes place in future.
Meanwhile, it is learnt that the MePDCL is working on installation of a new transformer in the village before installing new electricity poles.
