Taking cognisance of a complaint by the Garo Students Union (GSU) that the manager of a private company in Ri-Bhoi had sexually abused employees and was employing underage workers, the Deputy Commissioner has directed a magistrate to investigate the matter.
The GSU’s local unit had alleged yesterday that the manager of Orient Health Food, based in Byrnihat, had sexually harassed female employees of the company. The firm was also accused of hiring workers as young as 12, in violation of child labour laws.
The DC, RM Kurbah, confirmed to reporters today that a probe will be launched into the allegations.
