The United Democratic Party (UDP) released its first list of candidates for the autonomous district council polls in the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) and Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council (JHADC) today.
For the KHADC elections, the UDP released the names of 16 candidates, including four sitting MDCs and two MLAs.
The sitting MDCs are former Chief Executive Member Titosstarwell Chyne (Sohra), Mitchell Wankhar (Laban-Mawprem), Jambor War (Pariong-Mawthadraishan) and Balajied Ranee (Nongpoh). The two MLAs are Pius Marwein (Langrin) and Mathew Beyondstar Kurbah (Mawphlang-Diengiei).
The other UDP candidates for the KHADC are Barikupar Synrem (Shella), Desmond KL Mawlong (Nongthymmai), Auguster Jyrwa (Jaiaw), James Ban Basaiawmoit (Mawkhar-Pynthorumkhrah), Equator Nongrang (Mairang-Nongkhlaw), Naphishisha Marwein (Umroi), James Sylliang (Mawhati), Eddie G Kharbani (Umsning), Jessland Roy Nongsiej (Mawkyrwat) and Sranly Rongrin (Mawshynrut).
Meanwhile, for the JHADC elections, the UDP released the names of 10 candidates in the first list, including four sitting MDCs – Lomris Lyngdoh (Muthlong-Sohkymphor), Lasky Rymbai (Tuber –Wapung), Finelynes Bareh (Rymbai-Khliehriat and Winning Garland Sungoh (Mookaiaw).
The others candidates are Joinriwell Pyrtuh (Bataw-Lakadong), Rollingson Dkhar (Sutnga-Narwan), Eleazer C Dkhar (Shiliang Myntang), Fernando Sumer (Saphai), Riio Sten (Barato-Mukhroh) and Marki Mulieh (Jowai North).
UDP president Metbah Lyngdoh later told reporters that the next list of candidates will be announced before Christmas.
Lyngdoh also said that the party is trying to ensure that it contests all the 29 seats in both the KHADC and JHADC.
“A few of the constituencies have not held their circle executive committee or general council meetings (for endorsement of candidates). That process has to be followed, therefore the names have not been finalised yet in such constituencies,” he added.
