Shillong is gearing up to host its first ever Christmas Carol Singing Competition for groups and choirs at Anton Hall in Laitumkhrah, here on December 20 and 21.
Organised by Big FM, one of India’s leading radio networks, and JBL, one of the world’s leading players in the home and professional audio market, the competition is titled, ‘Jingle All The Way’.
The event is slated to be a vibrant and engaging event, attracting participation from local communities, churches and anyone who shares a love for Christmas Carols and who wishes to see the best talent from Meghalaya giving voice to the season of cheer with music.
A statement from the radio station said, as a mark of respect for Meghalaya’s rich musical history and lineage, the competing groups and choirs have been asked to perform a creative twist on the traditional carols thereby bringing out to the fullest extent the state’s proficiency in both popular western and indigenous musical styles.
Beside the carol singing competition, the organisers will light up the streets of Shillong with a three-day ‘Canter Activity’ that will roll through the city’s main locations.
The customised canter adorned and illuminated with Christmas decorations, characters and lights will engage the people of Shillong in activities like Karaoke, Christmas Rap Contests, Silent Disco and others spreading joy, handing out prizes and giving everyone a glimpse of JBL’s latest sound devices and technology.
Leading musicians like Rudy Wallang, Kitkupar Shangpliang, Jeremy Mawlong and Tipriti Kharbangar will be roped in.
