The Hynñiewtrep Integrated Territorial Organization (HITO) has asked the East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner whether the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) had obtained permission for a public meeting in Laban on July 31 and, if it did, why such permission was given.
In a letter to Isawanda Laloo, HITO asked the DC sought details surrounding the booth-level meeting of the BJP, which was held for South Shillong constituency at Assam Club, Laban.
BJP national general secretary Arun Singh was present along with other senior party functionaries.
“If permission was granted, then HITO would like to know the reason specifically and, if not, then whether this clear violation of extremely stringent rules of a regimented administration has been taken note of and what legal action has been taken or initiated in this regard,” HITO leader Donbok Dkhar asked.
He added, “We just wanted to remind you that if this blatant disregard of the law of the land by the lawmakers goes unpunished, then other stakeholders of society, including pressure and interest groups, will not hesitate to follow suit.”
