A district committee for examining cases of seizures in enforcing the Model Code of Conduct has been constituted in East Jaiñtia Hills.
The district election officer (DEO) in said that this was done to avoid inconvenience to the public and genuine persons and also for redressal of their grievances.
The committee will suo-motu examine each case of seizures made by the Police or Static Surveillance Team or Flying Squad. “If the committee finds that no FIR/ complaint has been filed against the seizure is linked with any candidate or political party or any election campaign etc. as per the Standard Operating Procedure, it shall take immediate steps to order the release of the seizures after passing a speaking order,” the DEO said, adding, the committee shall look into all cases and take the decision on seizures.
The members of the committee are DRDA Project Director, G. Warjri as chairman, J. Shylla, Nodal Officer, Expenditure Monitoring, Khliehriat as convener and L. Lyngdoh, Treasury Officer as a member.
