Mawkyrwat, Jul 20: The body of a 76-year-old woman, Joit K. Lyngdoh of Jakrem village, South West Khasi Hills, was found in a nearby forest on Monday, 16 days after she went missing.
According to police, a missing report was lodged on July 5 by her son, Pascal Wahlang, stating that she had not returned home since around 6 PM on July 4. She was last seen wearing a shawl, jainkyrshah and shoes of different colours on each foot.
Police said a case was registered at Mawkyrwat Women Police Station and investigation was taken up by WPSI A. Sawkmie. Notices were circulated statewide and to all OCs and ICs. Police, along with village authorities, locals and personnel from the MLP K9 CID unit, conducted extensive searches in Jakrem and adjoining areas.
Today at around 4 PM, police were informed that the body had been found in Pungkse forest, Jakrem village. The body was identified by her son, Remingstone K Lyngdoh.
Police said during spot inquest no incriminating evidence was found. The body was shifted to Mawkyrwat Civil Hospital for post mortem to ascertain the cause and time of death.
Police said registration of an FIR is awaited.
