The Border Security Force (BSF), Meghalaya foiled a cross-border smuggling attempt as it recovered cosmetics and clothing items worth Rs 21 lakh from the bordering areas of East Khasi Hills district today.
In a release, the BSF stated that the consignment was being carried as head loads by miscreants near the international boundary with an intention of crossing over to Bangladesh. On being challenged by the jawans, miscreants ran towards the Bangladesh side and left behind the items.
The seized items were handed over to customs office Pynursla for further investigation and legal action, the BSF said.
Informing that this year, the BSF has seized cosmetics and clothing items worth Rs 3.30 crore the statement said that this was due to enhanced alertness and vigil by BSF troops.
