An awareness programme on natural farming and Kisan Samman Diwas was organised by the Krishi Vigyan Kendra in Ri Bhoi today as part of the Kisan Diwas under the theme, ‘Igniting young minds by innovative farmers.’
About 40 farmers from the district attended the programme.
KVK district head Dr. Mokidul Islam welcomed and greeted the farmers for Christmas and New Year. He briefed them about the importance of the day and quoted Prof MS Swaminathan saying, “if Agriculture goes wrong nothing else will go right”. He also thanked the farmers for working to feed the nation.
SMS Agronomy Dr Meghna Sarma explained about the importance of natural farming to maintain soil health and productivity and emphasized on practicing it to build a healthy nation and stressed on sustainable agriculture through different ways.
SRF, NICRA Elgiva Wanshnong and KVK technical officer, Jessica Dohtdong spoke on the role of farmers in maximizing profit which brings significant impact on the country. They also explained to the farmers on how to use different crops at their farm to reduce soil erosion and restore soil fertility.
A video film on natural farming was screened at the programme to enhance the knowledge of farmers.
