Shillong, Sep 19: The Civil Society Women’s Organisation (CSWO) has condemned the attack on police officer Lovish Garg, who sustained serious injuries after being allegedly hit by a scooty while checking the rider on duty.
CSWO said police are entrusted with maintaining law and order and ensuring public safety, and must be allowed to discharge duties without violence or deliberate obstruction. It stressed that public and police must work together with mutual respect to maintain peace and security.
The organisation also expressed serious concern over alleged petrol bomb attacks at various offices and police stations leading to fire and damage to public property, saying such acts endanger lives and threaten public safety.
Appealing for cooperation, CSWO general secretary Evangeline Thabah in a statement urged residents and establishments having CCTV cameras in and around the incident sites to voluntarily share relevant footage with police and investigating authorities to help identify those responsible and ensure strict action as per law.
Calling for restraint at a time when peace and security are paramount, CSWO appealed to all to refrain from violence and destruction of public property.
