Shillong, Sep 21: In a crackdown on drug trafficking, the State Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) seized heroin worth around ₹7 lakh from Pynthorumkhrah, here.
Acting on intelligence about narcotics being transported from Silchar, Assam to Shillong, ANTF intercepted a vehicle (ML-05-AD-1301) at Pynthorumkhrah.
Two occupants — Jamir Hussain Laskar of Pangram, Cachar, Assam, and Joy Ryntathiang of Umkdait, Nongmensong, Shillong — were arrested after four soap boxes containing heroin were recovered from the vehicle.
The contraband tested positive of heroin and weighed 40.12 grams, ANTF Superintendent of Police Vikash Kumar said.
A case under the NDPS Act, 1985 has been registered and further probe is on to trace the source, destination and wider trafficking network, he said.
