Eleven MDCs of the All India Trinamool Congress have written to the deputy commissioner of North Garo Hills, RP Marak, asking for his intervention over allegations of overloaded coal plying trucks through the National Highway–62.
The complaint letter was signed by TMC MDCs, Cherak Momin, Stevie Marak, Alphonsiyush Marak, Sanjay Koch, Habibuz Zaman, Sadiarani Sangma, Pardinanrd D Shira, Nehru Sangma, Lahitson Sangma, Agassi Marak and Rinaldo Sangma.
“The main issue has been the violation of guidelines mandated for the transportation of auctioned coal. Whereas the official order has allowed for the transport of 9/12 tons of coal, on the ground trucks have been plying with loads of over 20 tons without legitimate permits to do so,” said the MDCs.
The MDCs stated that the overloaded coal could have substantially generated revenue to the GHADC and the state.
“This is in violation of office order as well as open loot and robbery of our Council’s revenue when we have a backlog of about 30 months. This open loot could have been utilized for the disbursement of salaries of our employees,” they alleged.
The TMC leaders asserted that the loss of revenue needed to be rectified early to prevent further losses while accusing the departments concerned in keeping things in check of allowing such wanton acts to continue.
They also asked the DC to immediately issue strict orders to stop the plunder of the state’s resources by some selfish people and stop the overloaded trucks plying illegally.
