Shillong, Sep 23: Cabinet Minister Methodius Dkhar credited a traditional healer from Umpling for curing his unusual illness in 2019 after modern medicines failed.
Speaking at the Golden Jubilee curtain-down ceremony of the Seng Nongsumar Dawai Khasi Nylla (SNDKN), West Khasi Hills, at Bishop Hall, Dkhar said he recovered after consulting the practitioner.
He stressed on protecting the environment and conserving medicinal plants to preserve traditional medicine.
The minister called for collaboration between traditional and scientific practitioners, with proper diagnosis – X-rays, blood tests – before prescribing, and cautioned against adulterating traditional medicines or mixing them improperly with allopathy.
Deputy Commissioner Hema Nayak, Syiem of Nongstoin Phylla Singh Syiem, SNDKN President F. Lyngkhoi and others attended.
A software based on the book ‘Golden Steps of West Khasi Hills District’ was also launched on the occasion.
