Shillong, Sep 23: The Khasi Jaintia Deficit School Teachers Association (KJDSTA) has announced a rally on September 25 to press for its long-pending demands.
Addressing the media, president Boswell S Pala said the rally will start from the MBoSE office and proceed to Malki ground. He said the association has been forced to agitate as several issues affecting deficit teachers and staff remain unresolved.
Pala said the implementation of CPF and NPS has not been completed and the government has deviated from the two schemes by introducing the Meghalaya Non-Government School and College Employee Centralized Provident Fund Scheme, 2026, which the association has rejected.
He said the government is yet to release 51 per cent DA due since July last year and 53 per cent DA, along with arrears of 43 per cent DA for January and February 2024. The association is also demanding filling up of vacant deficit posts, implementation of 10 percent CPF contribution from salary, restoration of the Board of Trustees for deficit teachers, regular salary and implementation of the Modified Assured Career Progression Scheme.
“We urge the government not to do anything to harm the deficit system, because by harming the deficit system, by harming the teachers, the education of students is affected,” Pala said.
He said all deficit teachers and staff from primary to college level, including retired colleagues, have been invited to join the rally and appealed to school managing committees to release teachers as the cause is linked to students’ education and making the teaching profession secure.
Pala added that the association had sought an appointment with the Chief Minister through a letter on September 1 but has not received any response, compelling them to hold the rally.
