Shillong, Sep 23: The Meghalaya Institute of Governance (MIG) and Indian School of Business (ISB), Hyderabad, launched the third cohort of Meghalaya Legislative Research Fellowship (MLRF) and District Research Fellowship (MDRF) at the Secretariat Wellness Centre on Wednesday.
Bharti Institute of Public Policy (BIPP), ISB Director Dr Aarushi Jain said the new cohort will cover all 60 constituencies over the next year, pushing constituency development plans forward.
Thirty-six plans have been completed in Phase-1, she said, with aim to finish all 60 and move to implementation. Fellows will work with MLAs to identify growth triggers and generate reliable data for research and policy.
For MDRF, the focus will be district growth strategies – field research, household data via scientific sampling, and analysis using causal loop diagrams and input-output modelling with ISB support.
Adviser to the Assembly, Dr Andrew Simons said two cohorts are done and the programme is building legislative research capacity. He also cited ISB workshops for MLAs in Mohali, Hyderabad and US.
MIG Director Aiban Swer urged fellows to engage MLAs with probing questions and said they will also work on social impact assessments, road and transport projects.
The workshop marks the start of a year-long research push across Meghalaya.
