Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tyngsong, who also holds the Public Works Department (Roads) portfolio, has promised to provide Narwan village with proper roads to boost its economy.
Tynsong gave the assurance after a memorandum on the matter was submitted to him by the Waheh Shnong of Narwan, Lamsuk Langstang.
The Deputy CM had been in the village to inaugurate a new resort there.
He claimed that the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance government has prioritised development since it came to power in 2018 and wants to develop from the ground up, starting in the villages.
He urged Santa Mary Shylla, the MLA of Sutnga Saipung, who was also present at the launch, to task the PWD engineer for the Khliehriat division to prepare the estimate for a road to Narwan at the earliest.
Tynsong also requested the people of East Jaintia Hills to continue to welcome tourists with open arms so that the good name of the district spreads further in the country.
Khliehriat MLA Kyrmen Shylla, who was also present on the occasion, said it was a good thing that coal mine owners were looking at other avenues for business growth so that the area is not solely dependent on coal.
