Termed “political clown”, the Congress today hit back at the Voice of the People’s Party (VPP) saying that it showed its desperation and arrogance.
“Although they currently have four MLAs, two of these have previously held the position of Chief Executive Member in the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council, while being affiliated with other parties, but failed to complete their tenures,” Congress president Vincent H Pala said.
“This new party, which has only recently begun to gain traction, is now displaying arrogance. Their description of Congress as a political clown stems from desperation,” he stated.
Pala said the Congress had collaborated with the NPP in the KHADC at a critical time when recommendations for the proposed amendment of the Sixth Schedule were being sought from the council and asked if the VPP can even clarify their stance to the public the principles they uphold to, in the upcoming district council elections.
He questioned whether the VPP intends to preserve the customary practices of the Khasi people and the Sixth Schedule or wants Article 371.
Additionally, he noted that the mandate from the public differs between MLA, MP, and MDC elections, highlighting that they are not the same.
