Two suspected motorbike thieves managed to escape from the Wahkoh area under Umkiang police patrol post in East Jaintia Hills district today.
According to police at around 4 am, two riders coming towards the Umkiang side from Ratachera at high speed were spotted by the mobile patrolling team but refused to stop.
When the team pursued the riders abandoned the motorbikes and managed to flee towards the jungle taking advantage of the darkness.
The motorbikes are kept at the police patrol post for necessary action.
It may be mentioned that police recovered five motorbikes abandoned by the people who had made off with them in Umkiang area.
