The Jaiñtia National Council (JNC) today said it has listed five issues to cover under its ‘Save Jaintia Mission’, launched in December last year, to secure recognition for the Jaintia people, whose aspirations have been ignored.
JNC publicity secretary Mebanteilang Sukhlaiñ in a statement today said that under the mission, the organisation will seek immediate action from the state government.
The issues include reforms, transparency and accountability in the Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council (JHADC, recognition of the Pnar language as a state language and its inclusion in the State Anthem.
Others are implementation of a job recruitment policy in cement companies operating in the state, resolution of the long-standing boundary dispute between Meghalaya and Assam and formulation of a small-scale coal mining policy.
Sukhlaiñ also said that an ‘employment commission’ has been constituted by the JNC to see that youth of the district are given employment by the cement companies located in Jaintia Hills and to conduct a check of documents of outsiders who are employed there.
He said the organisation will hold a public meeting in Jowai on January 15 to enlighten the people about its mission.
