East Jaintia Hills police today arrested two women at Ratacherra and seized over 992 grams of amphetamine.
The accused have been identified as Esther Vunghoihching (37) of Lapalang, Mawbynna and Nianenciin (45) of Bethel veng, New Lamka, Manipur.
Police said the accused were travelling in a Force Traveller bearing registration number ML05AC 2916 which was coming from Assam.
Officers and staff of Ratacherra Anti Infiltration CP who were conducting random check found one of the accused suspicious. When a search was conducted the team spotted a black colour plastic bag hidden beneath her seat with 25 pink pouches containing 200 tablets in each pouch, police said.
During preliminary enquiry one of the accused pointed to the other woman as her aunt carrying the tablets concealed in her body. Inside the Ratachera CP the women representatives recovered another 25 pink colour pouches containing 200 tablets in each pouch hidden inside a woollen muffler.
Police said the team seized 495.66 grams of amphetamine from Esther and 496.41 grams from Nianenciin.
A case has been registered under NDPS Act.
