Nine teachers from different schools in East Jaiñtia Hills district were felicitated for their outstanding performance in implementation of ‘Ka Lawei’ digital project.
The project was initiated by the district administration with the objective to provide opportunities of learning to student studying in remote areas at par with the school in the urban areas. Under the project, digital smart classrooms were introduced to 50 schools within the district.
Awards were also given to three schools for their outstanding performance in implementing the project.
Education Minister Rakkam A Sangma who attended the function as the chief guest in his address said that the government is dedicated to improving the education system and making it one of the best in the country. He called for all stakeholders to work together to improve the overall education scenario in the state.
He spoke about the National Education Policy and urged students and teachers to broaden their horizons beyond textbooks and develop a mindset and knowledge to connect with the rest of the country and the world.
Sutnga-Saipung MLA Santa Mary Shylla lauded the district administration for the successful implementation of the project and announced Rs 10 lakh through the Special Rural Works Programme (SRWP) to schools in the district to procure backup power systems, an initiative intended to address the issue of power cuts and ensure uninterrupted access to education in the district.
Education Advisor Himalaya M Shangpliang expressed his optimism about the digital learning project and hoped for its introduction in many more schools across the district. He emphasized the government’s commitment to providing additional facilities to ensure that children benefit from these smart classrooms. He also stated that the government is dedicated to bringing revolutionary changes to the education system of the state in the education sector through various initiatives and steps taken by the government.
A video clip on the project was also screened on the occasion. Others who spoke were Deputy Commissioner Abhilash Baranwal, Additional DC G. Warjri, District School Education Officer P. Dkhar and Fr George Lyngkhoi Principal of Don Bosco College, Byndihati.
Later, the dignitaries inspected a smart digital classroom at Byndihati Secondary School.
The Education Minister also chaired a review meeting with the officials of the department and interacted with the primary school teachers at the conference hall of the Deputy Commissioner’s Office in Khliehriat.
