Three men including 12 buffaloes lost their lives after the truck they were travelling in fell into a ravine near Mawkhap junction on National Highway 40.
The three deceased were identified as Kyndaiborlang Kurbah, Banpeitlang Marbaniang and Welbokstar Sohlang, all of whom died on the spot. The driver, Yomiki Kharshandi, and one other, Bansiew Khongklian, survived the incident.
Police informed today that they had received information at around midnight on August 6 that a truck (ML 05 G 9528) that was transporting 12 buffaloes and which was proceeding from Pynursla to Laitlyngkot had been involved in an accident.
The truck had broken down at Langkyrdem and was repaired. However, on reaching a turning near Khoh-yiar, near Mawkhap junction, the gear suffered a jam and the vehicle proceeded to slip backwards and then off the road and down a steep slope.
A police case was registered and is being investigated by Pynursla police.
