Shillong, Aug 30: Meghalaya’s four power utilities have nearly halved their operating losses in a year and achieved 100 percent collection efficiency.
Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) of India data shows combined loss came down to Rs 209 crore in 2022-23 from Rs 387 crore in 2021-22. Return on capital employed improved to minus 5.8 percent from minus 11.7 percent.
The sector accounts for about 90 percent of state capital invested in public sector enterprises. The companies were formed in 2010 after unbundling of the erstwhile Meghalaya State Electricity Board.
According to Power Finance Corporation report 2023-24, the Meghalaya Power Distribution Corporation Ltd recorded 100 percent collection efficiency and also managed to reduce aggregate technical and commercial losses, a key parameter for discom health.
