Jowai MLA, Wailadmiki Shylla has stated that than 90 per cent of the villages in the State have been electrified.
He said that through the Integrated Power Development Scheme (IDPS), the State Power department could also upgrade power in Jowai, Khliehtyrshi and Soomer Sabah substations.
At the Bijli Mahotsav event held in Jowai today, Shylla said that under the Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyoti Yojana scheme, 43 villages and 2902 beneficiaries were benefitted and through Saubhagya scheme 506 villages and 2968 beneficiaries of the district were covered.
Shylla further informed that for villages and beneficiaries not yet covered will be included in the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS).
As part of ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’, to celebrate 75 years of independence, the Union Ministry of Power organised a ‘Bijli Mahotsav’ in West Jaiñtia Hills district. The event was also held at Amlarem on July 26.
Besides cultural programmes, nukkad nataks and screening of short films on the power sector exhibits highlighting the struggle of U Kiang Nangbah, were also displayed in the programme.
Given the large gathering, it was ensured that all Covid safety protocols such as social distancing and wearing of masks were adhered to. In addition, masks were also distributed to all the attendees.
West Jaiñtia Hills Deputy Commissioner in charge, P K Boro, Additional DC, DD Syngai, officials from the State Power department, teachers and students were present in today’s function held at Chutwakhu Indoor Sports cum Auditorium.
