Shillong, Aug 29: Ninety participants joined the 5 km run organised by the PHE Department, Mawkyrwat Division under Jal Jeevan Mission to mark Rajya Jal Utsav and Lok Jal Utsav 2026 in South West Khasi Hills.
The run was held on the theme ‘Celebrating Water – Securing Sources’ and was flagged off by SDO (TC), PHE Mawkyrwat, E Khongthiang from the PHE office.
The route covered Ïew Mawlein-Jakrem, Ïew Sakwang, Ïew Pyndensakwang and the District Court before returning to the PHE office.
The race was held in four categories with 46 runners in Male 15 to 35 years, 18 in Male 35 plus years, 15 in Female 15 to 35 years and 11 in Female 35 plus years.
In the Male 15 to 35 years category Wonderful Paliar secured the first position, followed by Jinesfulson Hoojon in second place and Bankerlang Kharjahrin in third place. In the Male 35 plus years category Tlanding Wahlang emerged as the winner, with Jomsingstar Ramsiej securing the second position and Wanbokstar Wanniang taking the third place.
In the Female 15 to 35 years category Phidashisha Lyngdoh secured the first position, followed by Larisha Thongnibah in second place and Elfidary Wartde in third place. In the Female 35 plus years category Twina Pariong emerged as the winner, with Thlingda Wanniang securing the second position and Rolinda Wanniang taking the third place.
Cash prizes of Rs 5,000 for first position, Rs 3,000 for second and Rs 2,000 for third will be given in each category along with five consolation prizes of Rs 1,000 each.
