Meghalaya has gone back to levels of Covid-19 infection seen at the start of June, with the seven-day rolling average climbing to 628.43, the first time it has crossed 600 since June 2, with the spectre of worse to come a very real possibility.
The case count for July reached 14,233, more than June’s 13,915 but still lower than May’s peak of 18,752.
Another 731 new cases were recorded in the state today, along with 423 recoveries and 14 fatalities.
Seven deaths were in East Khasi Hills, three in Ri-Bhoi, two in West Garo Hills and one each in West Jaintia Hills and South Garo Hills.
East Khasi Hills recorded 204 new cases today, West Garo Hills 128, Ri-Bhoi 114, West Khasi Hills 96, West Jaintia Hills 91, East Jaintia Hills 30, North Garo Hills 22, South West Khasi Hills 22, East Garo Hills nine, South West Garo Hills nine and South Garo Hills six.
East Khasi Hills accounted for 155 recoveries, Ri-Bhoi 65, West Jaintia Hills 56, West Garo Hills 39, South West Khasi Hills 38, West Khasi Hills 31, East Garo Hills 21, North Garo Hills seven, South West Garo Hills six, South Garo Hills three and East Jaintia Hills two.
There are now 5,750 active Covid-19 cases in the state. East Khasi Hills alone accounts for 2,107 active cases, West Garo Hills 1,012, Ri-Bhoi 650, West Jaintia Hills 614, West Khasi Hills 472, South West Khasi Hills 320, East Jaintia Hills 166, North Garo Hills 138, East Garo Hills 102, South Garo Hills 91 and South West Garo Hills 78.
In all, Meghalaya has had 63,745 Covid-19 cases, of which 5,750 are active, 56,933 have recovered and 1,062 have died from the virus. The recovery rate has declined to 89.31 percent. The fatality rate rose to 1.67 percent. The seven-day rolling average for new cases soared to 628.43 and has stayed level for new deaths at 10.71.
