A former self-styled area commander of the Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA), Rahul Marak was arrested once again after a complaint was filed against him by members of a family following an altercation where he brandished a sharp weapon and threatened them.
Police sources said that the incident took place a few months ago during Easter Monday celebrations when Rahul had kept the family at knife point and threatened them.
The police had been on the lookout for him after the case was filed but he continued to evade them. However, based on inputs from sources, a raid was laid in the village of Khardang, close to the border with Assam from where he was arrested and sent to judicial custody.
“The Court had issued a non-bailable warrant against him after he failed to appear before it despite summons. He has been arrested and sent to judicial custody. Investigation into the matter is currently ongoing,” confirmed North Garo Hills Superintendent of Police, Abraham T Sangma.
