Shillong, Sep 26: Questions are being raised over the expenditure of over Rs 12 crore by the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC).
According to figures cited by the Niksamso Garo Community Organisation (NGCO), the Council had collected Rs 13,53,79,820 from its own revenue sources and taxes as on July 22, 2026, of which Rs 12,33,87,844 was reportedly spent.
The public is now seeking a clear breakdown of where and how the money was utilised, the organisation said.
In a statement, the NGCO said people have a right to know whether the funds were used for development works, employee salaries, administrative expenses or other purposes, and demanded that the newly-formed Executive Committee make the expenditure details public.
“The GHADC EC has not yet provided a clear and detailed response regarding the utilisation of these funds,” it said, urging the Council to publish financial records and ensure accountability.
“Public revenue belongs to the public. Transparency and accountability are essential,” the NGCO added.
