Shillong, Sep 26: Deputy Chief Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar on Saturday refuted claims that 22 NPP legislators were camping in Delhi for merger talks with the BJP.
Dhar said he, Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma and Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong had visited Delhi for official work and there was no move to merge with the BJP.
“I want to clarify from my side there is nothing wrong within the NPP family, we are fully united,” he said, adding the top three in the government are “with one mind.”
Dhar said reports that 22 MLAs were in the national capital were not true and asked the media to verify facts before posting on social media. All 33 NPP MLAs are “intact and united,” he said, calling the allegations baseless.
On reports of eight UDP legislators joining the BJP, Dhar said it was a matter between two parties and he did not want to comment. He said the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance remains strong as the merger happened between parties within the alliance.
He said every party wants to strengthen its own team and there is no harm in it, noting the NPP has run the coalition government since 2018 with 19 MLAs and now has 33.
“I am thankful to the coalition partners for supporting us. Even now they are doing,” he added.
