Shillong, Sep 26: Cabinet Minister and HSPDP leader Methodius Dkhar on Saturday said the joining of eight UDP MLAs to the BJP will not affect his party.
“What has happened with other political parties will not affect or concern the HSPDP. HSPDP and UDP are different parties even though we are in the same government under MDA-II,” Dkhar said.
“We keep moving and work according to our party principles, manifesto and policy. Whatever is happening with other regional or national parties is not much of our concern,” he added.
Asked if he was approached by larger parties, Dkhar said there is always casual talk in politics with friends, but ruled out any formal offer.
On his ministerial berth, he said, “I have total faith in the leadership of Chief Minister Conrad Sangma… I believe this will stand till the end of the term.”
“When I was given responsibility as minister, it is my responsibility to take it wholeheartedly and work for the welfare of the people. When my time ends, I will still be MLA and continue to work,” he said.
Rubbishing talk of collapse, Dkhar said, “I want to clear the confusion that the government is strong and there is no such thing that the government is going to collapse.”
