More than 1 lakh tests for Covid-19 were carried out in May in Meghalaya, the highest since the pandemic began.
According to figures released by the Health Department, around 1,13,550 tests were carried out in the state, though the figures were not broken down by type of test (RT-PCR, rapid antigen, etc) or by district.
The average number of tests carried out per day was 3,663. The average for the first half of May (until the 15th of the month) was 2,860 but this picked up in the second half as the second wave peaked and then began to drop off. The daily average for May 16-31 was 4,416.
Given the 18,752 new infections recorded this month, the state’s positivity rate is around 16.50 percent or roughly one in six.
