A 68-year-old man became the latest fatality due to Covid-19 in Meghalaya. His is the 123rd death from the disease in the state and 15th in West Garo Hills.
Purna Ram Das, of Dalu, was found Covid-positive on December 1. He had suffered from stroke-related paralysis since 2014 as well as hypertension and died yesterday afternoon at home, making him the 12th coronavirus-related fatality this month.
The fatality rate from the disease in the state is now 0.98 percent, with that of West Garo Hills standing at 0.89 percent.
Meanwhile, there were also 75 new infections reported today as well as 28 recoveries.
Of the new cases 57 were in East Khasi Hills, five in West Jaiñtia Hills, three in West Garo Hills, three in South Garo Hills, two in East Garo Hills, two in South West Khasi Hills, one in Ri-Bhoi, one in South West Garo Hills and one in North Garo Hills.
In East Khasi Hills seven armed forces/paramilitaries tested positive, along with five returnees, two police personnel and a handful of people in various clusters, including three in Nongmynsong, two in Umpling and two in Laitumkhrah. One member of the police force also tested positive for the virus in South Garo Hills.
Of the recoveries East Khasi Hills recorded 14, West Garo Hills five, East Garo Hills three, Ri-Bhoi two, South Garo Hills two and South West Khasi Hills two.
In all, Meghalaya has had 12,586 Covid-19 cases, of which 580 are active, 11,883 have recovered and 123 have died from the virus. The recovery rate is 94.41 percent.
The Health Department also informed that around 1,300 Covid-19 tests were carried out in the past 24 hours.
