Shillong, Feb 17: The Dorbar Shnong of Nongthymmai village, Eastern West Khasi Hills District, organised a protest rally condemning the brutal killing of a 25-year-old youth, Kerang Sawkmie.
The victim went missing on February 6, and police arrested three suspects in the case.
Hundreds of villagers, including men, women, school children, and elders, participated in the rally from Madan Nongsiej to Mawpdah and Madan Maroid, carrying black flags and banners demanding strict punishment. They strongly called for life imprisonment for the accused.
A public meeting followed, attended by leaders of the 12 Shnong Area Maroid, Village Defence Party members, women’s groups, KSU leaders, and the Sordar of Nongthymmai village, all demanding justice and expressing solidarity with the victim’s family.
