Shillong, Oct 14: The District Mental Health Program (NHM) in collaboration with the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Resubelpara observed World Mental Health Day under the theme, ‘Access to services – Mental Health in Catastrophes and Emergencies’, at Damas Higher Secondary School.
DM& HO Dr. Priya Sengse R. Sangma in her speech stressed on the importance of prioritising mental health issues and seeking professional help when needed. She highlighted the need to de-escalate mental health issues and promote mental health support.
During the event, Dr. Sangma also launched the National Deworming Day in the district, encouraging participants to take deworming tablets.
Dr. Rezia K. Sangma, DIO Incharge, North Garo Hills, stressed the importance of raising awareness about mental health issues, particularly in times of emergencies. She advocated for breaking the stigma surrounding mental health and creating a culture of support.
Deputy Superintendent of Police John C.A. Sangma highlighted the police department’s role in responding to cases of mentally unsound persons and providing supportive responses. He also delivered a strong message on the harmful effects of drugs and other substances.
