Shillong, Oct 7: The North Garo Hills district administration is holding a week-long awareness drive on the Meghalaya Right to Public Services Act, 2020 to sensitise citizens, especially youth, about their right to time-bound government services.
The programme from October 6 to 9 is being held across all four C&RD Blocks – Resubelpara, Bajengdoba, Adokgre and Kharkutta – covering educational institutions with participation of students from Classes IX to XII.
Assistant Commissioner Osamaphi Lynghdoh, as a resource person, explained the objectives and importance of the Act and said it gives citizens the right to receive notified services within the stipulated time, with provisions for accountability, grievance redressal and appeal if a service is delayed or denied.
She said students were targeted as they are more familiar with technology and digital platforms and can spread awareness among families and communities with limited digital access.
Highlighting transparency and efficiency, she said awareness of rights helps citizens make informed use of services.
The E-District Manager also briefed students on various digital services available through the e-District platform.
