Nongpoh, Oct 14: The Ri Bhoi Deputy Commissioner has clarified that the Department of Fisheries has not authorised any individual, group, or association to impose or collect fees or charges on fish being brought into the state from outside Meghalaya.
This comes in response to reports of unauthorised levies being demanded on National Highway. Authorities have warned that such actions are illegal and urged the public, traders, and transporters to remain vigilant.
The Deputy Commissioner emphasised that any collection of fees without official sanction will be treated as unlawful.
Residents and stakeholders have been urged to report any such incidents to the district administration or relevant authorities for immediate action.
