Fourteen houses were destroyed by wild elephants on three occasions in areas around Nongnah village under South West Khasi Hills district, leaving farmers distressed.
People said they spent sleepless nights guarding their paddy farmland from wild elephants and reports to authorities urging them to find solutions.
The area is frequented by wild elephants on a regular basis and causing terror. Residents said on July 3, 14 houses were completely destroyed and utensils for cooking were mangled. However, no loss of life was reported.
The residents have expressed their anger against the wildlife department for not taking any action against such unfortunate incidents.
It is not the first time that the area has witnessed incidents of man-elephant conflict. Earlier too many wild elephants have caused havoc in the village, causing widespread damages.
