Mawkyrwat, Jul 14: The body of a 56-year-old woman with multiple stab injuries was found at Pyndenumsaw village in South West Khasi Hills district, police said on Tuesday.
The deceased has been identified as Snity Wahlang.
The police suspect the involvement of her 62-year-old elder brother, Bailing Wahlang, who has been absconding since the incident. Efforts are underway to trace him.
According to the police, the report emerged from the Mawkyrwat Civil Hospital on Tuesday at around 7: 30 am, where she was brought dead after sustaining multiple stab wounds.
Local villagers had discovered her and promptly transported her to the civil hospital, but was declared dead upon arrival.
Police said an inquest was conducted and her body was subsequently handed over to a medical officer for a post-mortem examination.
A police team was also dispatched to the incident scene in Pyndenumsaw to secure the area and preserve evidence and efforts are on to apprehend the absconding accused.
A First Information Report (FIR) was registered at Mawkyrwat Woman Police Station under Section 103(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
