Amid a surge in Covid-19 cases in the State, traders and merchants from across the inter-state border are carrying out businesses flouting Covid protocols and advisories.
Taking note of non- adherence to the safety norms, the East Jaiñtia Hills Deputy Commissioner has decided to shut down Umkiang market.
The DC said that the traders and merchants from Malidor side enter and return on a daily basis and especially on market days without following the health protocols and advisories.
“Such behavior of the people from Assam and Meghalaya who are doing business transactions both cash and kind is a threat of spreading the Coronavirus in the district,” he said, adding, “Therefore the Umkaing local market shall cease to operate with immediate effect until further orders. Anyone found violating the order shall be book in accordance with the law.”
