Shillong, Jun 6: Sutnga-Saipung MLA Santa Mary Shylla on Friday conducted a survey to propose a new road connectivity project linking East Jaintia Hills District with Assam through the Sumer area, specifically across the Kupli River.
Shylla was accompanied by the Executive Engineer of the Public Works Department (PWD), G. Langstang, and community leaders from Sutnga-Saipung and Sumer areas. The objective of the survey is to identify the most suitable alignment for the new road and evaluate the feasibility of construction sites in the area.
Shylla highlighted the project’s potential to significantly improve connectivity, thereby facilitating the easier movement of people and goods between the regions. It is expected that the establishment of a new road, along with the construction of a bridge over the Kupli River, will not only streamline transportation but also promote socio-economic development in East Jaintia Hills and beyond.
Shylla emphasized the importance of community involvement in this initiative. She also interacted with community leaders in the Sumer area to identify the most suitable locations for implementing the road project, ensuring better transportation and smoother movement of goods.
