Khliehriat, Sep 17: Fed up with months of blackouts, tripping and flickering voltage, six villages in East Jaintia Hills have shot off a joint ultimatum to MePDCL.
The Dorbar Shnongs of Kuliang, Pyrtakuna, Umkiang, Dona Skur, Dona Umbluh and Borsara blame it all on the Kuliang Sub-Station lying dead for months.
With Kuliang down, all five villages are hanging on a single 11 kV line from Lumshnong, and the overloaded line keeps snapping.
In a joint memorandum to the Executive Engineer, MePDCL, Khliehriat Division, the village authorities demanded immediate inspection and restoration of the Kuliang Sub-Station, reduction of dependence on the Lumshnong feeder, comprehensive check of transformers, lines, poles and protection systems, prevention of tripping, and stabilisation of voltage.
The Dorbar Shnongs also sought regular maintenance and monitoring, and a written status report with a timeline for restoration, urging that the matter be treated as urgent public interest.
