Khliehriat, Sep 24: Jaiñtia Eastern College, Khliehriat on Thursday felicitated meritorious students during its Graduation Day celebrations.
Among those honoured were Best NCC Cadets Thiar Phawa and Wansakani Nongtdu – Wansakani will represent Meghalaya in the Philippines under the Youth Exchange Programme – Best NCC Volunteers Sunidonhi Kanai and Rimanisha Bamon, and MBOSE 2026 Class XII toppers Judicrous Pachiang (Commerce) and Myllingmika Pala (Arts).
Graduates from Economics, Education, Political Science, Commerce, Khasi and other streams were also felicitated.
Sutnga-Saipung MLA Santa Mary Shylla graced the occasion as chief guest. Addressing the students, she urged them to be hardworking and goal-oriented, saying life is full of challenges and success comes only through perseverance.
“I hope you move forward with good values and return to your district with honour,” she said.
Shylla said the government is creating opportunities for youth and assured support for student welfare initiatives. She also lauded teachers and parents for their role in shaping the students.
The MLA also released a book titled “Jaiñtia Hills – The Story of Coal in Meghalaya” authored by Dr R. Merika Nongtdu.
Dalmia Thangskai Deputy General Manager Mrinal Baruah, who was a special invitee, highlighted the company’s collaboration with the college in setting up DIKSHA, a beautician training centre aimed at making students self-reliant.
Present were Principal Dr R. Merika Nongtdu, Director Dr Phervision Nongtdu, Adviser Pastor F.S. Rymbai, faculty, parents and students.
