Shillong, Sept 26: VPP president Ardent Miller Basaiawmoit is facing threat to his life, with police intelligence reports prompting the department to offer him Y-category security cover.
“Yes I have received in writing requesting me to take security cover,” Basaiawmoit confirmed, adding he has declined it.
“It is only natural that as a political leader I will have such a threat since bad people will always have evil designs,” he said.
The Nongkrem MLA said VPP’s path is to clean the corrupt system and people opposed to that idea see him as an obstacle.
As per threat assessment, he is entitled to Y security cover, Basaiawmoit said, but reiterated he will not take it and expressed faith in the Creator.
“I am not scared of dying nor will I ever go into hiding,” he said, adding he is confident VPP will come to power after 2028 polls.
