Shillong, Sep 25: The East Jaintia Hills Superintendent of Police has issued a traffic advisory stating that use of vehicles must comply with the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, Central Motor Vehicles Rules and other applicable laws.
The advisory directs vehicle owners to display only RTO-approved High Security Registration Plates, with modified and fancy number plates not permitted, and to refrain from modified exhaust systems, loud silencers, pressure horns, unauthorised structural modifications that contravene Section 52 of the MV Act and Rule 93 of CMV Rules 1989, excessive window tinting, unauthorised high-intensity lighting and oversized tyres projecting outside the body.
It also warns against drunk driving and driving under influence of intoxicants, dangerous and negligent driving and other traffic violations, and asks owners and drivers to carry valid documents including Driving License, RC, Insurance, Fitness, Permit and PUC for inspection.
Extensive vehicle checking will commence from October 10 to ensure enforcement, the SP said.
Violators will be penalised, vehicles seized and documents and licenses will be suspended besides other actions as per law, the SP added.
